About James

James R. Lawrence has had a passion for writing ever since he was a boy--writing everything from novels to poetry to short stories to screenplays, all with equal exuberance and a fair amount of his dry sense of humor.

His first novel, Echoes in the Wind, is a compelling love story of beauty, truth, and the art of forgiveness. His second novel, Lake of Fire, follows the spy adventures of Evan Price.

A number of his stage plays have been produced in Minneapolis, MN, including The Lady of Shalott, an original play which received critical acclaim (if not a large turn out), and Wuthering Heights, the Emily Bronte classic. James acted in many plays, starring as DiDi in Waiting for Godot and Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest, plus a dozen other character roles. He also directs everything from Wm. Shakespeare to Neil Simon.

His short story, "Hide and Seek," predates The Sixth Sense, which tells the story of a ghost who doesn't know he is one.

He has written seven screenplays, none of which have seen the inside of an executive's office. His newest creation is titled Legends, a superhero adventure grounded in reality.

Besides his "creative" writing, James has professional experience as a reporter and editor for newspapers in the Fox Cities.

Currently, James is a "professional" stay-at-home dad. He currently lives in Greenville, Wis., with his wife Debra and children Ethan and Rachel.

Writing Review

"Lawrence comes off as a playwright really on the cutting edge for today...he slashes through the Mato Grosso of contemporary theater."

-Peter Lasha, from his review of
"The Lady of Shalott"
